Question 1

Is it legal for UK players to use a Non Gamstop casino?

Accepted Answer

Yes, it is legal for UK residents to play at offshore casinos that are not registered with the UK Gambling Commission, provided those sites hold a valid licence from another recognised international gaming authority. The UK law does not prohibit players from accessing foreign-licensed gambling sites — it restricts operators from offering services in the UK without a UKGC licence, but there is no criminal liability for the player. However, you should be aware that you may have limited legal recourse in the event of a dispute, since UK consumer protection law may not apply to transactions with offshore operators. This is why choosing a platform with a reputable licence and a track record of fair dealing is so important.

Question 2

Can I still access my GamStop self-exclusion if I've been playing at offshore sites?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Your GamStop self-exclusion applies to all UK Gambling Commission-licensed sites, and it remains active regardless of whether you've also been playing at offshore platforms. If you decide you need to return to your self-exclusion, you can update or reinstate it through GamStop.co.uk at any time. GamStop self-exclusions can be set for minimum 6 months, 1 year, or 5 years. Offshore casinos are not connected to GamStop, so playing at them does not affect your self-exclusion status with UKGC-regulated operators.

Question 3

What licence should I look for at a Non Gamstop casino?

Accepted Answer

The most reputable licences held by offshore casinos serving UK players are issued by the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA), the Gibraltar Regulatory Authority, the Isle of Man Gambling Supervision Commission, and the Kahnawake Gaming Commission. The Curacao eGaming licence is the most common among smaller operators and is considered less stringent — sites holding only a Curacao licence offer fewer player protections. Ideally, look for MGA or Gibraltar-licensed operators, as these jurisdictions have strict requirements for fair play, player fund protection, and dispute resolution.

Question 4

Will my UK bank allow deposits to offshore casinos?

Accepted Answer

This varies by bank. Some UK banks — particularly certain challenger banks and credit card providers — may block or decline transactions to gambling sites they identify as offshore operators. Barclays, HSBC, and others have been known to block certain gambling merchant codes. Using an e-wallet like Skrill, Neteller, or MuchBetter as an intermediary is the most reliable solution — you fund the e-wallet from your bank account (a transaction your bank may not flag as gambling), and then use the e-wallet to deposit and withdraw at the casino. Cryptocurrency is another option that bypasses banking restrictions entirely.

Question 5

How do I know if a Non Gamstop casino's games are fair?

Accepted Answer

Legitimate offshore casinos use Random Number Generator (RNG) software from well-established game developers, and many have their RTP (Return to Player) percentages independently verified by third-party testing agencies such as eCOGRA, iTech Labs, Technical Systems Testing (TST), or Gaming Laboratories International (GLI). Look for these certifications on the casino's website — they're usually displayed in the footer or on a dedicated "About Us" or "Fair Play" page. You can also check the software providers' own websites, as developers like NetEnt and Pragmatic Play publish their certified RTP figures publicly. In the crypto casino space, some platforms use provably fair algorithms, allowing you to verify the fairness of each individual bet yourself.

Question 6

What should I do if I have a dispute with an offshore casino?

Accepted Answer

If you have a dispute with an offshore operator, start by contacting the casino's customer support directly and clearly documenting the issue with screenshots and records of all communications. If the issue is not resolved satisfactorily, escalate to the licensing authority — for example, if the site is MGA-licensed, you can submit a formal complaint through the MGA's Player Support Unit. Many reputable offshore casinos are also accredited by eCOGRA's "Safe & Fair" scheme, which provides an independent Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) service. Player advocacy sites like AskGamblers and Casinomeister also operate complaint services that can put public pressure on operators to resolve disputes fairly. Always keep records of your deposits, withdrawals, and any bonus T&Cs you were shown at the time of registration.
